The Oscar E. Carr General Merchandise Store was located on South Main Street near the railroad crossings. The general location of the store was an area previously named Temperanceville. The land was previously owned by John S. Beckett, who had a sawmill at the location in 1884. Joseph Shute purchased the land from Beckett and then Carr purchased the property from Shute in 1907.

When Carr obtained the business he began selling groceries, in addition to the hardware, paint, feed, and plaster that were previously sold there. Many items not available anywhere else could always be found at Carr's store. In October of 1971, Carr held his final closeout sale and closed the doors to his store.  Mr. Carr retired at the age of 89 and lived at his home until he passed away on July 22, 1979.
